31 blogs in 31 days. I don't think I get a prize. So anyway on to content-random stuff of the day!
I got a part time job today. Only good news about it is I can say I have a job now and not look like a bum. But get this: they actually pay you for work! (unlike some places I will talk about eventually)
Gwen is avoiding homework and always running off to find someone to play with. This is bad. :(
I found sandals! And got some cheap "regular" shoes too.
In 2 days, I have covered 180 pages in a 507 page book.
There is a cat on my feet right now.
Kind of disappointed that I couldn't get a video interview of Gwen in this month-but she's being a bit of stinker about such things.
I decided (maybe too late in the day) that I needed to get new sandals, as mine are sort of falling apart. So, while I was getting an oil change I wandered over to THE MALL in search of a new pair. My main problem here is that when I go to the mall, I normally filter out things from my vision that I usually ignore-like shoe stores. Anyway I eventually find all the stores and none have a decent, low cost, pair of sandals for me.
Heck, Target and Wal-Mart didn't have any either. Tomorrow, I may have to try other shoe stores. And come up with a good ending for my Blog Every Day in August...
Going to go a little off beat today (a little?) and predict what will happen in the 2013 Doctor Who holiday specials.
Wait? Predicting 2013? But 2010 hasn't happened yet! Also, specials as in plural?
Well, yes. November 2013 is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, and if they at the BBC wanted to make an EPIC special, they could do a 2 parter with part 1 on (or about the day of) the 50th anniversary, and part 2 being Christmas Day.
So, what would happen in this special? The rumor has been out there for a while that (SPOILERS) The Voice heard during the 2010 series was Omega-who was introduced and was the villian in the 15th anniversary special "The 3 Doctors". In that it took, well, 3 Doctors (incarnations 1-3) to stop him. The 25th anniversary was "The 5 Doctors", which Rassillon (most recently played by Bond, James Bond Timothy Dalton) and needing (wait for it) 5 4 Incarnations to stop him.
Right now, there are 7 living actors who have (cannically) played The Doctor (not counting Curse of the Fatal Death, but I'm sure Hugh Grant is willing for a cameo) so a 50th anniversary 2 parter called "The 7 Doctors" isn't totally impossible. Load it up with all the available companions and maybe the SJA and Torchwood characters and there is a recipe for an amazing look at 50 years off Who.
NEW ROUTER! But it's not installed yet. So this will either be
a) easy and all will be back on line in no time
or
b) you will never hear from me again...
Well, the old router has been acting strange. It's a bit old and maybe is getting flaky. This combined with us having wireless-n capable laptops means we might as well make the jump to the wireless-n standard. (and since this is duel-mode, it can do -G for the wii without a problem.)
Well, that was geeky. Need more non-geeky content to end the month with. Maybe I can try to "interview" Gwen soon.
It looks like I may have a bit of a part-time job here soon. Not exactly saying where but it will be low pay (bad) but working around my schedule with Gwen (good) doing in-person customer service (which I VASTLY prefer over phone customer service)
So anyway, have to pass a background check (OH NOES! I'M A TERRORIST!) then do a wiz quiz (hope I can study up!) and maybe I can do something "productive" in society.
Also, at some point I'm thinking of doing a Vlog entry for one of these days. Thoughts? Comments? Anyone actually reading?
OK, first-watch this video I saw on youtube the other day, then I'll post some other comments...
OK, you're back. Now I thought this was frakin' funny. Then I started thinking of a certain change that's happened in our society...
Now back in the mid 90's (OH SHIT-THAT WAS 15 YEARS AGO?!) I played, then later help run, some Vampire LARP (that's Live Action Roll Playing) games here in town. It could be fun, made lots of new friends form here and other cities (linked campaigns kind of thing) but in all this fun where was the media?
Totally against us. I stayed home sick one day to see a talk show where the "guests" proclaimed that all stuff from the company that produced the game should be burned by parents. One time cops in Indy harrassed the game there because it was "obvious" and they were "well informed" that we were just like the Columbine shooters (there was a disproven rumor they were into the games).
Now, if someone set up a game based on Twilight (and I actually will insist most of Twilight rips off of the original setting for the game Vampire) the media would be swooning over it and calling it so great and wonderful which makes me wonder if gaming is just more accepted or the media will just adore whatever the hell is popular at the time in order to boost ratings/readership/whatever. Personally, I think the geek haven't inherited the Earth-we're just profitable.
Well, anyway I probably had more but someone (read: DA GWEN) needed a bath-and my train of thought is derailed. Anyway-more BEDA goodness tomorrow...
Yeah, strange way to look at things, but the calender lines up so...
6 years ago today I took the (then not even 1 year old) Gwen down the street to DQ for some Monday ice cream (just barely a taste for her) when my mother called.
And told me that my dad was in the hospital. And it might be a good idea to come up.
I went up, then spent the rest of the week...well let's say if you think I could be bad now-I was horrible then.
This Friday will mark the 6th year of his passing. I'm going to cry now. Or get ice cream. Whichever.
Tomorrow-I promise something a little more upbeat, OK.
Played Lord of the Fries for the first time tonight. It's a card game where the players are zombies working in a restaurant filling orders. We played twice, I won both times :)
While we were playing, it looks like there was a discussion about Gwen's scouting future, and it seems like things are smoothed over (but she'll still have to find a new troop) :(
In other news-I'm not really looking forward to next week, but I'll tell you about that Monday-it will make sense then.
And Gwen has a Hannah Montana DVD now featuring the Jonas Brothers. Shoot me.
After a conversation about who may be "listening in" on twitter, I set my account to "approve new followers" and locked it down. Then I went through and ended up eliminating 280ish followers based on if I actually knew who it was/had they ever posted/etc. Sorry if I cut YOU out but I'd have to ask "who are you?"
So, it also turns out that now about 90% of my followers I follow back. Which is probably a good thing.
Got my mind together to do some more applications today, things were going well, then found out that Gwen's Girl Scout troop will be having their meetings right after school
Across town from Gwen's school.
A half-hour drive (at least) away.
So, if Gwen wants to be with her friends, she has to miss half of each meeting (at least). If she wants to be at a full meeting, she has to find a new troop with new girls in it and leave her old friends behind (which is always hard for her)
So, I feel that we're being punished (again) for something that we have no control over (again) but someone out there will spin this to be our fault (again)
I've just been in a bad mood today. I've yelled at Gwen for "little things" all day and just been feeling more depressed. Add this with the worthlessness I feel about not finding a job and things are bad in my head.
Maybe tomorrow will be better. But at least I'm being told I have "no right" to my mood, like usual.
How about another improve piece about my Warhammer 40K stuff? Maybe mixed with me being bored...
So I decided to take some new pictures of my tanks/vehicles today. I set up my "studio" outside to see how to take advantage of the natural lighting. I had my "box" to put the subject in, then set the camera up about 4 feet away zooming in on the subject.
So, pretty good result. I may do some more like this tomorrow. Especially if I don't have a subject for BEDA.
Every once in a while I get hit with massive depression. Mostly when things aren't going my way. Like for the last year. I've been job hunting with no real success. I can't get into bed at night without Gwen taking up my whole side (and I can't move her). I'm going to be called lazy and messy tomorrow by the mother in law (because that's all she does). Yes, I'm lazy because I can't find a job. My best prospect so far this week is a part time for $8/hour-because that's all there is. The same place has another opening where one of the requirements is that in your previous job you made $75,000 a year.
Which gets me depressed again because there's no way I'll ever make that. The only way to get a high-paying job is to HAVE a high-paying job, how closed circle. But remember, I'm just lazy-that's why I can't get anything.
Yeah, live my life and try NOT to have a bad attitude.
So, my mom has shown up early today. She got tickets and we are going to see RED GREEN LIVE! tonight. She parks, comes in and announces she has brake problems-they went out when she was almost here.
So guess who had to take a look?
Let me tell you one important thing-I am NOT a car person. Nope, not at all. But I was able after several minutes to figure out that the brake fluid might be low, filled it, and suddenly the problem-while not gone-was reduced to the point where the brakes WORK. This is when my mom tells me that the mechanic looked at it last month when she saw signs of a leak after it was parked and he declared it an oil leak.
So I have to follow her home tomorrow and make sure she gets home alright. I'm demanding a full fluid check before and after.
So I can't do anything I might have wanted to today...or tomorrow.
It's not the heat around here (even if it has been over 90F) it's the stupid humidity. I have trouble breathing in this, I feel like I'm swimming through the air. It's insane.
And some of the Leman Russ parts I was overcoating seem to have a weird finish on them because of the humidity. I'll try something with the main body in a few minutes...
I was sooooo planning on getting something done today, but I went up to my mom's with da Gwen to work on her computer (which may just need replaced-it's kinda old) and spent ALL DAY up there. Then we went to Gwen's new school and got her registered for 1st grade.
Weren't we just bringing her home from the hospital not that long ago? And now first grade?
So anyway, that got done. I managed to sneak out and pick up paint. Leman Russ is about 45% done. I'll do a "family shot" when it's all done with all 6 together.
I'm going to Gen Con tomorrow. For those not knowing, it's the most geeky gaming convention of all time.
I'll say "geeky" because as much as they want to rewrite the dictonary, what Vegas does is gambling, not gaming. I'm talking 20 sided dice, yelling "I waste him with my crossbow", and debating which version of Ars Magica was "the best" and which game systerm should be used it simulate a Harry Potter campaign.
And the shopping. Oh yes, if it's gaming related it WILL BE THERE. At some booth, somewhere. With all the major game publishers (and many "minor" ones there) one can find anything to buy. Plus some good deals on older stuff. I can't wait.
Anyway, this is looking like a boring post. But I'll have something tomorrow when I get back. Maybe with pictures.
Well, woke up a bit early (for me). Painted more on da ORCS (maybe can finish tonight/this afternoon). Went to zoo.
Found out that 3 weeks of my unemployment was deposited this morning, so I paid a couple bills and get some groceries for tonight. More in-depth shopping later.
Hoping (fingers crossed) that the other 5 (YES FIVE) weeks owed to me show up, then I can pay back a little to people, pay all the bills+some, and go to GENCON on Friday.
